» Overview of Langtang & Helambu Trek

Welcome to ATH (Adventure Trans Himalayan Treks & Expedition Inc..)
Langtang National Park is the Nepal 's first Himalayan national park and the area was designated in 1971. The region north of Kathmandu offers multitude of trekking destinations, all accessible by road. The three major areas are Langtang, Gosainkund and Helambu, which can be combined in many different ways to make treks from 7 - 16 days long. This region used to be the most visited set of hills in Nepal in the past twenty years, however, now other regions have become much more popular i.e. Khumbu and Annapurna. The sceneries and mountain views are good. Langtang is a narrow valley that lies just south of Tibetan border; it is sandwiched between the main Himalaya range to north and a slightly lower range of snowy peaks to the south. Mt. Lang tang Lirung 7246 meters dominates the valley to the north; Gang Chhenpo 6388 meters and Naya Ganga 5846 meters lie to the south; and Dorje Lakpa 6966 meters protects the east end of the valley. This high and isolated region is inhabited by Tamang peoples whose religious practices, language and dress are much more similar to those of Tibet than to the traditions of their cousins in the Middle Hills of Nepal . This valley offers an opportunity to explore villages to climb small peaks i.e. Yala and Naya Ganga and visit glaciers at a comfortably low elevation. According to legend, a Lama following a runaway Yak discovered the valley. Hance the name-Lang is Tibetan for ? AK' and tang ? o follow'. You can vary the trek to Langtang by returning to Kathmandu via the holy lakes of Gosainkund at 4300 meters, or you can include helambu in Langtang trek, either via Ganja La 5106 meters or Gosainkund. Thousands of Hindu pilgrims visit the lakes during a full moon festival in August. The lake is also sacred to Buddhists.
