Follow trails leading through magnificent rhododendron and conifer forest to the foot of Kangchenjunga. This innovative trek to the southern flanks of Kangchenjunga provides outstanding views of the world's third highest peak. A delightful trek without the commitment to high altitude, that leads through Hindu villages and yak herders settlements seldom visited by trekking groups. From Taplejung we follow the course of the Tamur River along the classic trading trails between Tibet, Nepal and Sikkim , ? hrough traditional Hindu villages'. Slowly we ascend the rugged gorge country before diverting across the forested ridges of the Sumathalang Danda. We enter pristine forests of rhododendron and conifer and follow remote trails to alpine glades that afford uninterrupted views of Kangchenjunga. Atop, grassy slopes, small chortens, Mani walls and prayer flags indicate the presence of Tibetan yak herders who migrated to this region of Nepal several generations ago. On reaching the terminal moraine of the Yalung Glacier you trek higher to view the huge ramparts of the South Face of Kangchenjunga, the soaring East Face of Jannu and Kabru Range that forms the impressive divide between Nepal and Sikkim . Inspired by exceptional mountain views and then you return Via Yamphudin to Suketar and fly back to Kathmandu . |
